Little panda is born

A little panda was born in late July! Now around seven weeks old, Mama Kwina sometimes moves her youngster to a different nesting box. They're living alongside Papa Miyuko in the space with the decking. Caregiver Linda managed to get a snapshot of the little one.

By the end of September, our young panda will likely start venturing outside more frequently. Typically, little pandas spend about three months in their nest. Here at Blijdorp Zoo, we're coordinating the conservation efforts for this at-risk species.

The enclosure was a generous gift from the Friends of Blijdorp and was renewed in 2022 with new nesting boxes.
